You had said that there is going to be maybe the chance to join one of two sides. I had an idea regarding the story line from just such an angle.
There is a small village full of a number of citizens. the village grew up around a spring in the area and has also gained attention from other places as a result. The area imediatly around it is unusually fertile and is desired by many.
You have two options really. If your playing for one side then you have the option of trying to run off the people so that your employer can move in and take the area for himself. I see the options as being as simple as spreading a plague or poisoning the water or some other such vile thing. You could also try to simply exterminate the people or bribe them if your pockets are deep enough.
The other path is to go and defend the village from those who would do it harm, most specifically, slaughter the village.
Its an idea ive been working on but I am not to far on it yet. Im wanting to put more effort into it yet but i think that it will be interesting if its the leader of the village who is trying to push every one else away so that he can try to resell the land later when the water is pure and the city is safe. almost like a land grab. ive not had the time yet to develop it further but wanted to throw it out for ideas. |

This isn't a bad idea. I can see how it could work in Rhydin, but the actual technicalities might be alittle tricky. I kinda liked the idea WoW had with Battlegrounds. So if there was a way to form this village in such a way where Players from both sides can enter and do battle, while at the same time try to complete goals I think it would be a great addition. I'll need more info about it though so work out what you can, and maybe we can design something to fit it. _________________ - Sorceress Ashura.

ive not played Wow but i see the idea pretty well. Perhaps we colud make it like when you go to old owl well in the OC of NWN2. if your playing one side you could have one contact and if the other side you could have another.
if possible maybe make it like the slums area in NWN1 where there is in a burned out remnant of the city that is the main battle ground of the city. there is a number of side quests that would be possible.
also i have always liked the idea of a gauntlet where you could go and duel. maybe we could incorporate a gladiator pit somewhere within the area where you could go and test your build.
i dont know how random caves and maps work but maybe if there was a sorc you could talk to to get random maps to explore that would add replay value to the PW for players who have over come most of the story lines within the game. or maybe even just make a pure battle area where every one is in fact hostile. |

Yes, we're on the same wave length here about battlegrounds, and arenas. And now that you've mentioned maps, I've been gathering some thoughts together about a particular "system" that I think will spice things up abit.
When the player first enters Rhydin for the first time. They are given a Novice Pearl. What this simple item does is start a conversation that collects character data from the player. Depending on the player character's choices; such as, alignment, home city, native/outsider, noble/commoner it will determine where that player starts in Rhydin. Now once that is done the novice pearl changes into a Home Pearl, which will grant the player a 30 second cast, that teleports them to thier home city once per day.
Anyway once that happens and the player starts, he/she is given a map of the Rhydin Continent. (See: http://rhydinplanesreborn.myfastforum.org/about74.html) On this map only a few locations are revealed. (will be usable when using the World Map) In order to visit new places, that player will need to unlock them by several ways. From another player for instance, using a map marker. Or from NPCs IE; "Yes, I remember grandma talking about an old graveyard up in the hills... Here let me mark it for you." Or by reading a book from a library, or examining a mysterious painting on the wall. _________________ - Sorceress Ashura.

| that is a pretty cool idea. i think it would be something. the only question i have about it is would it also decide class? reason i ask is i am sure some would rather pick it directly than select it through questioning. if i came into a PW with that type of character development to start off with i would probably stay a lot longer and would probably enjoy it alot more. its a great idea |

Yes, class is also a key element on where the character will start. One of the most important ideas behind Rhydin, is that I want every character.. wither they are new or a veteran... To feel "wanted" and .. lack for a better word.. "important". The one thing I don't like about PWs out there, wither they were NWN1, or 2. I felt like I had to constantly prove myself.. either with skill in the game or RP just to group with others, or take part in a DM event. Which usually ended up with me losing interest in the world, becuase no one took my character seriously, or I was to low/high level.
Which also brings me to a new system I was thinking up yesterday. I was thinking of creating a "fountain of aging". Where players could go to erase a bad build of levels, or try something new. I got the idea from Futurama actually. lol I love that show.. And I also got inspired from the job system in FFXI. ... Yes players can have more then 1 character... lol This fountain, if made.. will only be accessible to higher levels. Lots of details I'd have to work out yet. But figured I'd share it none-the-less
