flash presentation

I created my first flash movie for our pw at www.terratorva.com. You guys have helped me so much, I wanted to offer to do one for you also. I am still a flash noob pretty much, but it was a lot fun creating the first one. Iskatu, thanks for the sounds. I downloaded Goldwave and it was awesome. Do you guys need a website? I know dreamweaver 8 pretty well, but again, I'm not a pro. I could whip up something tasty though. What do you think? =)

Forlorn

Up to Ashura about the website...not sure if she thinks theres a need for one. Priority right now for her is the server I think (at least thats what she told me).

Hey there. Yes Forlorn is correct, my priority is the server at the moment. But I do know that I will eventually need a website when the server does launch. Going to need a place to store maps, and item lists. Even a recipe page from the crafting system. If your still up to the task later Gnok, I'd be very grateful.

If you guys need actual webspace, as in, virtually unlimited space, I could probably arrange hosting for you guys as well. Depends if Gnok is offering webspace or just construction of a site.

@ the Flash - simple, but gets the point across. My music sounds totally awesome, yay!

That was one of the main reasons why I put the server as first priority. Webspace, and the website. I have basic .. and I do mean very basic knowledge of html lol. I dont have the proper tools for such things, so I thought the forums here would be efficent enough to connect players of the server.

website

Sure, whenever you're ready to get a site up, let me know. I can only offer the files and the code though unfortunately. I have our website on a separate server from our game servers, and only will have enough bandwidth to cover about 40 players. I'm currently on cable and have looked at their t1 equiv, which isn't really a direct line because cable is a shared network with node-specific architecture. Someone can attack my node, and I'd be hosed. Problem is a t1 is about 500 bucks. I can get a t1 cable equiv of upstream speed for 300 a month or 1 meg up for 120. Any thoughts on this?

Down the road a bit, hopefully I'll be able to integrate premiere into my flash presentations so we can post sweet looking gameplay movies that we build with the toolset and record in-game.

Keep me posted on your html needs. =)

Will do, any help will be that much weight off my shoulders. Heh. And as far as any thoughts? *Eyes grow vacant*.. T1? .... upstream-huh? What's a node?... *Grabs her nerd dictionary* LOL Razz I'm such a ditz when it comes to that stuff.. and now its plain for all you to see.. Shocked

Oh the shame.. Embarassed

speed n stuff

Hehe,
Sorry for being so technical. I'm not sure I can explain it without sounding technical, but I'll try. Basically, to run an NWN2 server you need an internet connection with a good deal of upstream speed to transfer data continuously to your players. They are downloading from you, you are uploading to them. Fast download speeds are pretty easy to get cheaply, but fast upstream speeds cost money.

There is a distinct difference between DSL and Cable. Cable is distributed on a network through "nodes," which share the connection with your local neighborhood. If a ton of your neighbors are online all the same time, your server will experience lag issues. DSL is a direct connection to the internet, and is not distributed across a network. DSL connections are usually about twice as expensive as their Cable counterparts, and that's what I'm mulling right now as I plan for an upgrade to handle all the players. Everyone on the nwn2 forums warn you not to go with cable because of the shared-connection issue, but DSL is like 500 a month for a connection called a T1. A T1 connection bridges two regular POTS (plain old telephone system) phone lines to form a high-speed internet connection that gives you 1.5 megabit upstream/1.5 megabit downstream of uninterrupted direct connection bandwidth. Thats 1.5 million zeros and ones pouring into and out of your computer every second. Basically a phone guy comes out and pulls two phone lines into your house and uses a little box to bridge them and provide you a standard ethernet plug-in for your computer that's really fast. You also have to run the server yourself and take care of any freezeups or reboots as needed at your location. There are also companies that offer dedicated server hosting packages for about 130 a month and up, but I don't think they come with support, so I'm not sure how you could reboot unless they have a 24-7 support line. That probably costs money as well. I have been watching the nwn2 forums, but they don't seem to have found a supported hosting package that allows for NWNX4 and MySQL. I'll go back and reread the forums for some info and post what i find if theres anything new. Does anyone else have any information about internet service providers who offer 24/7 supported hosting for Windows XP and that include NWNx4 and MySQL support?
