beast of the fields <side story suggestion>

deep within the realm there exists a small farming village. the village of late has been struck time and time again with attacks from an unknown beast. the village has put out a bounty on the beast in hopes that an adventurer out to make a name for themselves may be able to quell the beast.

the most recent attack took place shortly after dark had fallen on the land. no one has seen the beast during the day so many suspect that somethign is a miss. a man was returning to his home with a few friends after spending a few coins at the local pub. as they were leaving the pub there was a ghastly howl coming deep from the darkness enshrouded around the small hamlet. the three sprinted to get to the home of the one who lived the closest. three were in flight. only one made it. the first fell quickly and the other fell short of the door its self. the lone survivor held up in his home over night listened as the best gorged apon the flesh of his friend on the opposite side of the door. occasionally hearing scratching apon the door itself. he though to himself that it was his friend begging for help but the moment he built the courage to peer through the door he heard the gruff growl of the beast.

little else is known about the beast, only that all who have seen it have not lived to tell about it. only those with ghastly stories are left to piece together what is really happening.

Hmm, reading this gives me an idea of some of the banter to put in villager's conversations. I'm going to need more though if I'm going to create a quest driven from this "rumor"
