|
|
Hello everyone.
Since I've been writing alot of conversations, and inputing script systems. I wanted to take a moment to describe a little on the gods and goddesses for Rhydin. I know a few of you have wondered about this particular aspect of the persistent world. So here it goes,.. please remember this is a rough draft, so many things are subject to change. If there is anything you'd like to suggest, please feel free to post here, if I like it I will update this list.
[Updated 05.07.08]
As I was filling out books for ingame reading I began to think of how I could make these deities more important to the realms. Rather then have them just be tome fillers, and idle chants. I was thinking of incorperating deity granted gifts, where players can use a particular "god-given" gift once per day. The more I thought about it, the more I started to like the idea. Some of these abilities will be passive, will others are activated. You'll be able to access these new powers just like the way one would activate the "Blessing of Waukeen" from NWN2 OC.
Elder Deities.
Aurora, the Earth Mother.
Domains: Air, Fire, Water, Earth, Good, Healing, Animal, Plant, and Sun.
Alignment: Chaotic Good.
God Given Gift: Destiny's Charge.
Aurora is the goddess of nature in Rhydin. The majority of elves, and halflings follow this deity. Preserving the way of life, through communions with all forms of life. Folk lore says that Aurora is Roc's wife in the pantheon.
Roc, the Father of Time.
Domains: Time, Knowledge, Travel, Good, Air, and Death
Alignment: True Neutral.
God Given Gift: Time Heals All Wounds.
Roc is the god of time and space in Rhydin. Humans are the main followers to this being of pure knowledge, and ultimate power of the universe. Many believers of Roc often give lip service to Aurora as well.
Drakkar, the Judge.
Domains: Law, Protection, Strength, Earth, Fury, and War.
Alignment: Lawful Good.
God Given Gift: Judgemental Glare.
Drakkar is the god of justice, and punishment. Many dwarves pay homage to this god of righteous fury. Rhydin Lore has stated in various texts across the dwarven home lands, that the gavel Drakkar uses was the legendary, dwarven crafted hammer "Blazestone".
Godiva, the Spirit Charmer.
Domains: Death, Cold, Water, Darkness, Knowledge, Magic, Travel, and Undeath.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral.
God Given Gift: Call of Spirits.
Godiva is the goddess of death, and mistress to the spirit world. She is the keeper of all souls that exist in Rhydin. Due to the mystery, and frightening aspects of this deity, she is not in the mainstream of advanced societies. She is mostly worshipped by creatures, and beings who migrate in tribes.
Natasxis, the Source.
Domains: Evil, Destruction, War, Knowledge, Strength, Fire, Fury, and Law.
Alignment: Lawful Evil.
God Given Gift: Sphere of Fear.
Natasxis is a dark god in Rhydin. Only those with the blackest of hearts pray to this maniacal deity. His word is his law, and he enforces it with a brutal iron fist. Those who accept this being of pure hate into thier lives, usually finds him or herself in unusual circumstances that truly only benefit this malevolent god.
Lesser Deities.
Calistrio, the Unseen.
Domains: Trickery, Knowledge, Air, Travel.
Alignment: Chaotic Evil.
God Given Gift: Sounds of Blackness.
Calistrio is the god of thieves in Rhydin. Whenever something turns up missing, its usually derived from the influence of this deity. Obviously rogues, monks and rangers find this particular god rewarding to fall back on when certain things don't ..."exactly"... work out.
Morgana, the Tainted One.
Domains: Evil, Plant, Earth, Destruction, Chaos, and Darkness.
Alignment: Chaotic.
God Given Gift: Vile Corruption.
Morgana is the goddess of poison and plagues in Rhydin. Its not very common to find followers for this chaotic deity, however it doesn't mean they don't exist. Many who worship Morgana, do so in private. As to not inform certain authorities to their presence, or ideas. Those who fall from the grace are usually the results to this wicked goddess.
Lo'Gan, the Heart.
Domains: Dream, Fire, Luck, Healing, Trickery, Good, and Sun
Alignment: Neutral Good.
God Given Gift: Arms of the Angel.
Lo'Gan is the god/goddess of love and poetry in Rhydin. There are many followers who choose this deity as their personal guide to the pantheon. It is said that Lo'Gan often takes the form of humanoid creatures to befriend, and seduce it's disciples. The actual gender of this deity is unknown, even to the gods themselves.
Demi - Deities.
Shiva, the Elemental.
Domains: Knowledge, Water, Air, Cold, Fury, and Magic
Alignment: Neutral Good.
God Given Gift: Snowflake.
Shiva is the sister goddess to Siren, she holds influence over the elements of weather. Shiva was not born into godhood like the other deities, she earned the gift of immortality through her deeds in service to Aurora.
Siren, the Guardian.
Domains: Fire, Earth, Strength, War, Magic, and Dream.
Alignment: True Neutral.
God Given Gift: Ancient's Avatar.
Siren is the sister goddess to Shiva, she holds influence over the primal forces of the savage garden. Siren, like her sister, was not born into godhood like the other deities, she earned the gift of immortality through her deeds in service to Aurora.

Nice list! I think each god should have their own symbol...alot of rp is derived from symbols. Usually PC's post in their descriptions that they have tattoos/amulets/inscriptions upon shields the symbol of their deity for others to read and take note of. Other than this, it looks great so far.
One other thing, the list so far is good as it is, if you plan on adding to it, I recommend not adding too many more deities, as players sometimes get overwhelmed by reading so much info and having to digest all of it for rp purposes...for example two PC's are conversing religion and one pc says "yeah I follow ____" and if the list is so massive and extensive, the other pc won't know who that deity is, and therefore break the immersion in rp. This is a game and if the info is too great, it detracts from fun, its not like its rocket science school. So in summary, shorter is sweeter. _________________ Goodness, courage, and love are a song. Yes, I agree. I think symbols would be a very nice touch to add to these dieties. As far as in game textures I wouldn't know how to input these images, except through VFX files. If something comes to mind, I'll put them up.
Also, these here will be main dieties for the world. I think adding a large list only leads to confusion, and it will leave many of the dieties unnoticed. I was asking for input, incase I missed a particular aspect. I think I got all the important domains covered. A god for nature, god for time, spirits,.. poisons, judgements,..Love... etc.
